PLANTS OF CONCERN

Chicago Botanic Garden
Glencoe, IL

Research Assistant
2019 & 2020

Before starting my master's degree, I worked as a research assistant for the Negaunee Institute for Plant Conservation Science and Action at the Chicago Botanic Garden. As part of CBG's "Plants of Concern" project, I collaborated with researchers, land managers, and community scientists to collect and analyze data on rare plant species in Illinois, focusing heavily on species located in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. This crucial work informs best management practices for plant conservation and promotes community awareness of local ecology.

When not collecting data, I can be found educating and organizing volunteers, or reporting on data analyses to our stakeholders.

What is "community science?"

Community science is the collaboration of community members with professional researchers for the mutual pursuit of scientific discovery. Community scientists are sometimes also referred to as "citizen scientists."
