WILDLIFE REHABILITATION

Lake Erie Nature and Science Center
Bay Village, OH

Rehabilitation Intern
2016

As an intern at LENSC I cared for injured wildlife, raised countless squawking baby birds, administered medications, maintained a clean facility, and provided public educational programs to patrons. This was quite a fast-paced work environment that required consistency, communication, and attention to detail.

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

  • Prepared diets and enrichment for birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish.

  • Administered feedings to juvenile wildlife, as well as those too injured to feed themselves.

  • Administered medications (mostly steroidal and anti-inflammatory treatments).

  • Input data from wildlife treatments to WILD-ONe database.

  • Maintained clean enclosures and an organized workspace.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

  • Handled program animals for public view.

  • Communicated information about local wildlife to visitors.

  • Regularly spoke with community members regarding best practices for wildlife encounters, as well as follow-up communication for any animal admitted to the facility.
